{"id":581,"date":"2026-03-25T09:37:40","date_gmt":"2026-03-25T09:37:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kade.rcm-test-web.co.za\/calvary\/?p=581"},"modified":"2026-05-22T07:44:34","modified_gmt":"2026-05-22T07:44:34","slug":"article-headline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kade.rcm-test-web.co.za\/calvary\/2026\/03\/25\/article-headline\/","title":{"rendered":"CROSS COUNTRY ON A REAL TRAIL"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 data-path-to-node=\"2\">Technical and Tough: Fifteen High Schools Face Calvary\u2019s Gruelling Cross Country Track<\/h1>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"3\">Teams from fifteen local high schools recently went head-to-head in a challenging cross country event held on the demanding grounds of Calvary Christian College.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"3\">\u201cThis is a tough cross country track and, in places, really technical,\u201d noted Mr. Barkhuizen, the principal of Calvary Christian College.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5\">\u201cIn the past, our athletes used to train on a relatively flat course. This didn\u2019t help us when we came up against teams from KwaZulu-Natal, because they trained on hills,\u201d he added. \u201cNow we run here, and this course prepares our athletes much better for any terrain they might face out there.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 data-path-to-node=\"7\">Competing Schools<\/h2>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\">Athletes from across the region gave it their all, showing immense determination. The schools represented on the track included:<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"9\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9,0,0\">Calvary Christian College<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9,1,0\">Sir John Adamson High School<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9,2,0\">President High School<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9,3,0\">St Martin&#8217;s School<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9,4,0\">Waterstone College<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9,5,0\">St Andrew&#8217;s School<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9,6,0\">Mondeor High School<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9,7,0\">Covenant College<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9,8,0\">Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic School<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 data-path-to-node=\"11\">Event Divisions &amp; Distances<\/h2>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12\">The athletes pushed through the grit and technical turns across four main competitive divisions:<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"13\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"13,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Senior Boys:<\/b> 6-kilometre course<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"13,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Senior Girls:<\/b> 4-kilometre course<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13,2,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"13,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Junior Boys:<\/b> 4-kilometre course<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13,3,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"13,3,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Junior Girls:<\/b> 4-kilometre course<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14\">The sheer difficulty of the terrain was felt by everyone. As one exhausted competitor crossed the finish line, she collapsed and said, <i data-path-to-node=\"14\" data-index-in-node=\"135\">\u201dI\u2019ll never do this again.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"15\">But as any true runner knows\u2014much like those preparing for the upcoming Comrades Marathon\u2014she will undoubtedly be back next time with a renewed attitude of <i data-path-to-node=\"15\" data-index-in-node=\"156\">\u201cthere ain\u2019t no mountain high enough.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<h2 data-path-to-node=\"17\">The Road to Gauteng South Colours<\/h2>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"18\">The stakes are high for these athletes.
